Dental Bridges in Plano, Texas and McKinney, Texas
A dental bridge is a false tooth that is used to fill the gap created by a missing tooth or several missing teeth. Besides being unpleasant to the eye, a gap between your teeth can potentially carry dangerous side-effects to your dental health. Your teeth can begin to shift, altering your bite and causing pain. Dental bridges help alleviate this problem by using your two surrounding teeth as anchors to hold a false tooth in the place where the gap is. Typically, the false tooth (known as a pontic) is fused between two porcelain crowns placed over the surrounding teeth.
The most commonly used dental bridge in our Plano and McKinney dental offices is a traditional fixed bridge. The false tooth is typically made of either porcelain fused to metal or ceramics.
How it's done
At Alexander Dental, it typically takes two visits to either our Plano dental office or our McKinney dental office to complete the dental bridge procedure. The first step takes care of three important steps. Firstly, the two teeth surrounding the gap are prepared to fit their crowns. Typically, this includes filing down the tooth for proper fitting. Secondly, Dr. Kasiri will take an impression of your teeth which is sent to a nearby dental laboratory to prepare your crown and bridge. Finally, Dr. Kasiri and his team at Alexander Dental fit your teeth with a temporary bridge while we wait for the lab to craft your permanent bridge. Your temporary bridge will protect the abutments and the exposed gum areas, not to mention filling the gap and providing you with a better smile in the meantime.
At the second visit, your permanent bridge is received from the lab and inserted in place of the temporary bridge. We check and adjust the fit but additional visits may be necessary to ensure perfect fitting.
Your new bridge may take a period to adjust to, but shortly after the procedure is completed you’ll feel back to your old self. We recommend eating soft foods for a few days afterwards.
